Dragon*Con 2011 Video: Sylvester McCoy Recites Lines From ‘Doctor Who: The Pandorica Opens’ Posted: 02 Sep 2011 04:54 PM PDT Sylvester McCoy, the seventh actor to portray The Doctor on classic British TV show Doctor Who, made his first appearance at Dragon*Con today. Not only did McCoy reveal the humorous origins of his name, but the actor also read a scene from recent Doctor Who episode The Pandorica Opens, which was originally performed by Matt Smith. Why would McCoy do such a thing? Partially, I think it's because he is very fan friendly. The reading was done at the request of the panel moderator, who wanted to dispel the notion that McCoy was a bad doctor by giving him some decently written dialogue [...] |
Movie Review: The Inbetweeners Movie Posted: 02 Sep 2011 03:00 PM PDT The Inbetweeners Movie Starring Simon Bird, Blake Harrison, James Buckley, Joe Thomas, Greg Davies, Emily Head Directed by Ben Palmer Released date August 17 2011 (UK) November 25, 2011 (U.S.) We all know that moment when our school life is officially over. No more teachers, no more school room politics. Real life, it is usually officially decided, is about to start and things will only get better. Many go on a lads/girls only holiday where he/she will drink/puke and definitely - finally - get laid/syphilis. This is where we find our four heroes of The Inbetweeners Movie. Simon (Joe Thomas) has been dumped by his girlfriend Carli (Emily Head) and is in desperate need of a change of scenery. So free from the constraints of their respective creepy, obnoxious, sexy, perverted parents and scary, potentially violent teacher (Greg Davies), Simon along with Will (Simon Bird), Jay (James Buckley), and Neil (Blake Harrison) go on a 'lads only' holiday to the beautiful party resort of Malia. Their hotel is a dump – the kind of place where the landlord pulls a dead dog out of the well. There are stains on the mattresses and new lifeforms growing in the fridge. Undeterred, the lads head out on the town looking for, ahem, "pussay." [...] |
Go See Christopher Lloyd On The Big Screen In ‘Insight’ Posted: 02 Sep 2011 12:43 PM PDT I don't know about you, but if I see the name Christopher Lloyd on a movie, I'm watching it. This weekend, Lloyd's new film InSight will be released in limited theaters, and also stars Sean Patrick Flanery (The Boondock Saints), Adam Baldwin (Firefly), Natalie Zea (Justified), Thomas Ian Nicholas (American Pie), and Veronica Cartwright. You can check out the trailer here below for the film, directed by Richard Gabai, but I'll be honest -- the trailer doesn't do the movie justice. Matter of fact, it plays like a Funny or Die parody of a psychological paranormal thriller. So, maybe skip the trailer and just go by who's actually in the movie. Oh, and the story, story is important too: an ER nurse (Zea) gets zapped while trying to revive a dying woman who's been stabbed. She then immediately gets the woman's memories; of course, everyone thinks she's nuts now and she's basically going nuts because she's got this other chick's memories taking over her brain. So, understandably, she sets out to solve the crime on her own and then luckily the detective on the case (Flanery) teams up with her. Lots of crazy shit happens and there's stuff about life to be learned too, and apparently, about the dangers of defibrillators [...] |
Watch Now: Dragon*Con TV ‘Twilight’ Parody ‘When Edward Met Bella’ Posted: 02 Sep 2011 10:16 AM PDT D*CTV, the good folks who provide video entertainment to the 40,000 convention attendees at Dragon*Con, has released a new sketch that picks fun at two characters that are either extremely loved or extremely hated the world over: Edward Cullen and Bella Swan. Below is the video they produced parodying the 1989 romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally -- only using the two most popular characters from Twilight. From the video description: "Want to watch a movie about two people who communicate poorly and take far too long to hook up? Well, enough about Billy Crystal movies ... here's a Twilight parody. New ‘Tucker & Dale vs. Evil’ Tony Moore Poster, Red Band Trailer Posted: 02 Sep 2011 08:58 AM PDT A new poster has been created for the indie horror–comedy, Tucker & Dale vs. Evil. The poster comes from comic book artist Tony Moore, who's worked on everything from Punisher, Ghost Rider, and Venom, as well as The Walking Dead, which has nabbed him two Eisner Award nominations. The movie tells the story of Tucker and Dale (Firefly's Alan Tudyk and Reaper's Tyler Labine), two hillbillies who are on vacation at their secluded mountain house in the middle of the woods. When a group of preppy college kids come to their area as for a getaway, they automatically assume Tucker and Dale are dangerous serial killer types. But when one of their friends has an accident and Tucker and Dale try and help, the kids' assumptions of their murderous intent only grows, which only leads to messy consequences. You can see the Tony Moore poster as well as the red band trailer (NSFW), by clicking on over to the other side now. [...] |
Kevin Smith’s Comic Book Store To Get Reality Series ‘Secret Stash’ On AMC Posted: 02 Sep 2011 08:01 AM PDT Along with announcing their 90–minute premiere of season 2 of The Walking Dead, AMC also announced a new reality series called Secret Stash. The show takes place at writer/director/producer Kevin Smith's famous comic book store in Red Bank, New Jersey, Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash. The aim is to show the day–to–day of the comic shop, as well as the fanboy culture that surrounds it. The first season will arrive in early 2012, and the first season will run six episodes, each an hour in length. Of the announcement, Smith said "Draper. Meth. Zombies. This show couldn't be on a better network. AMC is to television what Miramax was to cinema back when I first got in the game: they're the premier destination for any story-teller looking to spin an offbeat yarn that no other outlet has the stones to touch. And as if I didn't love them enough, now they're putting my friends on TV! I'm ecstatic, proud, and extremely lucky to be in bed with a network I watch religiously anyway." [...] |
AMC Announces 90–Minute Season 2 Premiere Of ‘The Walking Dead’ Posted: 02 Sep 2011 07:00 AM PDT On Sunday, October 16 at 10pm, the highly anticipated second season of The Walking Dead will premiere on AMC. To add to the excitement fans have for the 13–episode second season, AMC has also announced that the premiere episode will run 90 minutes in length, much like the pilot episode did last Halloween when the show first began. Now the only question that remains—after showrunner Frank Darabont was supposedly fired, for which AMC has faced a ton of backlash—is if the same large following will continue to watch the show, or if some fans will have shunned it. SYNOPSIS "The Walking Dead" follows a group of survivors, led by police officer Rick Grimes, played by Andrew Lincoln ("Love Actually," "Teachers," "Strike Back"), who are traveling in search of a safe and secure home. Jon Bernthal ("The Pacific," "The Ghost Writer") plays Shane Walsh, Rick's sheriff's department partner before the apocalypse, and Sarah Wayne Callies ("Prison Break"), is Rick's wife, Lori Grimes. Additional cast include: Laurie Holden, Steven Yeun, Norman Reedus, Jeffrey DeMunn, Chandler Riggs, Iron E. Singleton, and Melissa McBride. [...] |
