Comic Book Art Blogs Worth Viewing: Comic Twart Posted: 01 Sep 2011 08:50 PM PDT There are a lot of great comic book art blogs out there, beyond the deviantart pages of the world, and if you're a comic book fan, these are webpages that you should be checking out on a daily basis. All this week, I'm going to highlight a few that I think are worthy of your attention or are just pages for some of my favorite artists. Today, we look at a collective webpage, Comic Twart. Comic Twart was started in early 2010 and features work by nearly 20 different artists, who generally tackle a theme each week and show their different takes on that week's theme. The artists involved include Mike Hawthorne, Chris Samnee, Mitch Breitweiser, Tom Fowler, and Dave Johnson. The theme is generally a specific character, but it could be a more general concept. Recent themes have included Giant Monsters, Power Girl, The Flash, and Space Ghost [...] |

Posted: 01 Sep 2011 08:08 PM PDT Don't ask me how this is possible, but Guitar Hero on Tour Decades Bundle for Nintendo DS is on sale right now for only $2.84. Yes, you read that right - it's under $3. I don't even own a DS, yet I'm about to buy 10 copies. The bundle comes the Guitar Hero On Tour: Decades game, as well as a guitar grip peripheral with wrist strap and a special stylus pick. Dwayne Johnson Up For ‘Goliath’; Taylor Lautner Eyed For David Posted: 01 Sep 2011 07:20 PM PDT You know, when it comes to a man who could fit the title of Goliath, who better than Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson? Relativity and Temple Hill Entertainment think the same thing, as the pair have tapped Johnson for the role of Goliath in a new take on the biblical story David and Goliath with Taylor Lautner being eyed for the role of David, according to Twitch. Goliath will be helmed by The Day The Earth Stood Still director Scott Derrickson [...] |
Don Cheadle Shows Us What ‘Captain Planet’ Should Look Like Posted: 01 Sep 2011 06:31 PM PDT With a full-fledged, live-action Captain Planet film on its way thanks to Cartoon Network, it's time for Funny Or Die to give it a try. And I must say, it does to great avail. Starring Don Cheadle as the man in blue, the short sees Cap going off on various people, and ultimately both a city, and even an unlucky Planeteer. And yes. It's that damn good. Watch the video here [...] |
Promotional Art For ‘The Avengers’ Hits Posted: 01 Sep 2011 05:29 PM PDT Even though the film's still being shot, that doesn't mean that people aren't still freaking out about the upcoming big-screen version of The Avengers, especially when it comes to random, if cool, pieces of promotional material. SpiderMedia has released a pair of promotional art pieces for the film, which hits on May 4, 2012. The film stars the cast of characters led by Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Clark Gregg, Samuel L. Posted: 01 Sep 2011 04:00 PM PDT Super DVD I Blu-ray DIRECTOR: James Gunn WRITER: James Gunn STARRING: Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page, Liv Tyler, Kevin Bacon, Michael Rooker, Nathan Fillion, Gregg Henry, Sean Gunn IFC Films RELEASE DATE: August 9, 2011 Just recently I reviewed a little indie flick called Griff the Invisible, one of three fairly recent movies about normal everyday folks creating and becoming their own superheros. The other two are 2010's Kick–Ass, and director James Gunn's Super. At the time, I said that the three movies shouldn't be compared (having a basic understanding of Super but not having seen it yet), and now, having seen all three, this is confirmed: all three are unique in their own special ways, and all three are very much worth seeing. Super tells the story of Frank D'Arbo (Rainn Wilson), a lowly and rather pathetic man who works as a cook at a local diner. [...] |
Watch This Sneak Peek Of BBC’s ‘Sherlock’ Season 2 Posted: 01 Sep 2011 02:14 PM PDT It was back in January when Sherlock writer Steven Moffat gave some clues as to what to expect in Season 2 of the BBC series. It's two main stars -- Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman as Dr. John Watson -- have been busy working on Peter Jackson's Hobbit movie, and while the series was originally scheduled to return in Fall 2011, it now appears that new episodes won't air until some time in 2012. It's a long time to wait, if you ask me, but now at least we can get a tiny sneak peek of Season 2 of Sherlock with this new teaser promo for the show. Check it out here below. Moffat previously stated that the three new 90-minute episodes would be titled "A Scandal In Belgravia," "The Hounds Of Baskerville," and "The Reichenbach Fall." [...] |
George Lucas Argued Against Film Alteration Yet Continues To Change ‘Star Wars’ Saga Posted: 01 Sep 2011 12:15 PM PDT Many of us won't remember this, but back in the '80s, Ted Turner purchased the rights to libraries of old classic movies with intent to add color to the black and white films and re–release them to the masses. This was considered an outrage by many, including some of the still–living directors of the films, but nothing could be done about it. So a group of spokesmen for Hollywood including George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, James Stewart, Woody Allen, and John Huston took it to Congress in hopes on instilling laws against the alteration of films in order to preserve their heritage. But it was Lucas who took the floor and made the speech that's more relevant today than anyone would have thought it would be. A speech in 1988 that stood strong for the preservation of original films that he himself has broken many times over since that time by changing numerous parts of his classic Star Wars trilogy, including most recently on the Blu–ray release. Continue on to read the full speech from Lucas. [...] |
The Conspiracy Behind The Destruction Of Sauron’s Tower In ‘The Lord Of The Rings’ Posted: 01 Sep 2011 11:00 AM PDT Ever wonder what really caused Sauron's Tower to collapse after the One Ring was thrown into the fires of Mount Doom at the end of The Lord of the Rings films? Apparently, a Redditor put together some photographic evidence that the destruction of the Dark Tower of Barad-dur at the end of The Return of the King must have been an inside job! How could the ring's destruction on Mount Doom cause a break near the top of the tower? And what about all that ejected debris?! Check out the full infographic here below which lends support to the conspiracy theory behind the destruction of Sauron's Tower [...] |
Blogger Wants To Become Batman, You Can Help! NBC Picks Up ‘Romancing The Stone’ For TV Adaptation; Shawn Levy Could Direct Posted: 01 Sep 2011 07:17 AM PDT NBC has acquired the rights to adapt the 1984 Robert Zemeckis action–adventure romantic comedy, Romancing the Stone, into a TV series. The deal with NBC comes from 20th Century Fox TV and Shawn Levy (director, Night of the Museum 1 & 2, Real Steel) and Marty Adelstein's (producer, Hanna, Prison Break) 21 Laps Entertainment and Adelstein Productions. Mark Friedman (writer, Home of the Brave, creator/writer/producer, The Forgotten) will write the adaptation, and Levy could step in to direct if no feature film projects (like Night of the Museum 3) become available to him. The movie followed Kathleen Turner as a romance author who sets off to save her kidnapped sister in exchange for a treasure map, but, after almost being killed by someone else who wants the map, she is saved by an American bird exporter (Michael Douglas), and the duo end up on a dangerous quest to find the treasure, save her sister, and elude the many dangerous people out to find them.
