New Trailer For ‘The Skin I Live In’ Hits Posted: 29 Aug 2011 06:43 PM PDT Better known for melodramas like Volver, director Pedro Almodovar has stepped as far out of his comfort zone as possible for his next film, The Skin I Live In. And based on this trailer, it's a step that the auteur known only by his last name should take more often. A new trailer for the hotly anticipated film has hit, and it's a real winner. Check it out here below. I've had the chance to actually see The Skin I Live In, way back at this year's Cannes Film Festival, and this trailer is more than telling of the actual film [...] |
‘Halo 4′ Begins The Reclaimer Trilogy; New Concept Art Revealed Posted: 29 Aug 2011 06:10 PM PDT At the Penny Arcade Expo, a panel was held for the recently announced Halo 4, which is being developed by 343 Industries, the division established by Microsoft Game Studios to take up the reigns after Bungie concluded their work on the franchise with Halo: Reach. Halo 4 is still a long, long way off, so 343 wasn't able to talk a whole lot about the project, but they did have a couple of small things to share with eager fans, as well as some concept art from the early stages of the game's production. First of all, the game will begin a brand new trilogy of games, and 343 announced that this new trilogy has been named The Reclaimer Trilogy. And what is a "Reclaimer," some of you might ask? Well...I haven't the slightest clue. But the Wiki page does have a description, which you can see below along with the video of the various pieces of concept art shared. Here is the description of a Reclaimer in the Halo universe: [...] |
Book Review: Supernatural: One Year Gone Posted: 29 Aug 2011 03:13 PM PDT Supernatural: One Year Gone Paperback | Kindle By Rebecca Dessertine Titan Books Release date: May 24, 2011 In Supernatural: One Year Gone, Dean believes Sam is in Hell after the tragic events from the Season Five finale of the Supernatural television series. He fulfills his promise to his younger brother Sam to live a normal life with Lisa and Ben. However, Dean deviates from that promise. Dean takes a family vacation to the town of Salem where he searches for the Necronomicon, a book that may contain the spell to raise Lucifer and Sam from Hell. Unknowingly to Dean, Sam is back on Earth and has his own agenda at hand: to hunt the witches of Salem. I've been a fan of Supernatural for the last five seasons although there are six seasons of the show. I was so pleased with how Season 5 ended that I refused to watch Season 6. When the opportunity to read Supernatural: One Year Gone came up, I figured it was a good chance to read it since I had yet to see season 6. The book bridges the gap between seasons 5 and 6 and it tells of an unseen adventure that happens between the seasons of the show [...] |
Hellboy Returns To Mexico In ‘Dark Horse Presents #7′ Posted: 29 Aug 2011 01:07 PM PDT If you were worried that you'd never get to see any more Hellboy stories following the events of Hellboy: The Fury #3, well, you probably didn't read the last page promising his return in 2012. Okay, you probably know that the Hellboy series hasn't ended, but we're still not sure what's going to happen to the character himself after the shocking ending. Perhaps not surprisingly, Hellboy creator Mike Mignola is going to mine the character's rich (fictional) history by telling stories set in his past. The first of these stories will see publication in Dark Horse Presents #7, and will be titled Hellboy vs. The Aztec Mummy. The issue hits shelves in January 2012. Hellboy vs. The Aztec Mummy will be an 8-page story and is the follow-up to the 2010 one-shot Hellboy in Mexico, written by Mignola with art by comics legend and frequent Hellboy collaborator Richard Corben. Hellboy vs. The Aztec Mummy features Hellboy fighting a Mexican bat-god, a luchadore, and as the title explains, an Aztec Mummy [...] |
Check Out This Stunning Hand-Illuminated Version Of Tolkien’s ‘Silmarillion’ Posted: 29 Aug 2011 11:02 AM PDT For a school project, a German art student hand-illuminated and bound a copy of J.R.R. Tolkien's Silmarillion. Benjamin Harff, who hopes to work as an illustrator and calligrapher, created this one-of-a-kind manuscript for his exam at the Academy of Art in Germany. All in all, it took Harff one year to create his book, financing it himself. The Tolkien Library website got in touch with Harff for a lengthy interview and obtained several photos of his deluxe edition Silmarillion. Check out an excerpt from the interview here [...] |
Yet Another ‘Grudge’ Film On The Way Posted: 29 Aug 2011 10:00 AM PDT Because this is something the world is really clamoring for. Bloody Disgusting is reporting that, yes, a fourth film in The Grudge franchise is heading our way. The film is being backed by the team of Ghost House Pictures and Mandate, and at this point, this is all we really know about this project. The film will mark the eighth installment in the true-blue Grudge franchise including the original pictures, a number far too large for this mediocre collection of movies [...] |
‘The Departed’ Writer Working On A New Draft For ‘Sin City 2′; Remaking ‘The Gambler’ With Scorsese Posted: 29 Aug 2011 09:01 AM PDT Well, at least it looks like someone is working on this damn thing. Best known for writing the script for Martin Scorsese's Oscar winner The Departed, writer William Monahan is working on a new draft for Robert Rodriguez's long-talked-about sequel, Sin City 2. THR has the scoop, and this comes after Rodriguez revealed that the film may be shooting as early as later this year. Monahan is an immensely popular entity it appears, as it has also been announced that Monahan will be remaking the classic, The Gambler with none other than Scorsese himself [...] |

Music Review: Red Hot Chili Peppers – I’m With You Posted: 29 Aug 2011 06:56 AM PDT Red Hot Chili Peppers I'm With You Warner Bros. Produced by Rick Rubin U.S.: CD | MP3 UK: CD | MP3 Release date: August 29, 2011 A lot has happened to the Red Hot Chili Peppers in the last 5 years. Since the release of their last album, 2006's Stadium Arcadium, drummer Chad Smith joined Chickenfoot, bassist Flea went to school, singer Anthony Kiedis grew a moustache, and guitarist John Frusciante left due to 'musical differences' (why won't bands just tell the truth and put out a statement that reads – to paraphrase Friends – 'it's just...we hate that guy'?). Now with Josh Klinghoffer on guitar duty, the Chili's have released album number 10, I'm With You. As I opened the case I kept repeating to myself, "don't let me down, don't let me down..." Someone heard me. Loud and clear. Stadium Arcadium had, apart from a small selection of songs including "Dani California" and "Hump de Bump," had very little to revisit. At 28 tracks long, it was too much and a little self-indulgent. I'm With You includes half its predecessor's number of tracks and twice the quality [...] |
