Girl Power
Firstly I have to acknowledge that the first ever woman, Oh Eun-Sun, has succeeded in climbing the world’s 14 highest peaks earlier this week (although her world record is now in dispute). All in all it took her thirteen years to complete the fourteen peaks all over 26,545 ft/ 8000 meters and her last climb in the Himalayas took her 13 hours to complete.
Rather humbling in light of the fuss I made about attempting a paltry 2,440 ft in Wales last weekend!
Secondly I want to give a massive cheer for all the fabulous ladies who have already agreed to sign up for the Boutique Run. Thanks Emma, Sophie, Megan and Claire (not letting you get off that easily!) for their immediate enthusiasm and willingness to get involved. Hopefully lots more girlies will be joining in too – The more the merrier!!
To everyone who’s worried that they can’t run – please don’t be. We all have to start somewhere – and believe me, no-one will be slower or more unfit than I. HONESTLY!
I’m fairly sure Oh Eun-Sun never thought she would be a record-breaking mountaineer when she set out all those years ago. Similarly one my lovely colleagues at work, the amazing Amitee never thought she’d be able to complete the 5k Your Way course in Regent’s Park last night – but with very minimal training over a few weeks – as she will personally testify - not only did she complete the course – she also did it in someone else’s trainers (one of the other reasons I love her, we both suffer from footware malfunctions!) and in a staggeringly fast 28 minutes!!!! Massive Congratulations Amitee – she has been suitably chuffed all day. So much so I’m signing Amitee up for the 10k Boutique Run immediately – I have to slow her down somehow!
If you also want to join in the Boutique Run – it’s not too late - here's what you need to know:
• Boutique Run is a 5k or 10k run on Saturday 10 July in Battersea Park.
• It’s going to be a 6pm start because it’s designed to be a night out with the girls.
• IT’S NOT ALL HARD WORK! After the run you’ll get access to spa treatments, nail and make up bars, champagne and drinks bars, fashion and luxury changing facilities – and that’s just for starters! If you are a girl after my own heart – you will also come away with a Goodie Bag full of fabulous treats!
Remember to use the discount code below and you'll get 25% off the entrance fee! So all in all, it works out about £25.00. BARGAIN! However, I believe the deadline for pre-registering ends this weekend, so don't delay for a guaranteed place.
Don’t worry if you are not a natural runner, HELP is at HAND.
Here comes Shameless Plug No 2 ;)
1. SUPERchicks are running a two week BOOT CAMP in not one, or two, but THREE London Locations. BOOT CAMP starts on 10th May and will have you fighting fit in less time than it’ll take me to complete the Boutique Run!
2. SUPERchicks are also running a special 8 week LEARN TO RUN course, starting on the 8th May. This will take you right up to the Boutique Run – perfect for all those (me included) who need help coordinating simultaneous leg AND arm movements!
Importantly you don’t have to be a SUPERchick member to sign up for either of these courses, you can be an much-loved, honourary SUPERchick!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
So to recap, your recommended 3 step Action Plan to running success is as follows:
1. Register yourself for the BOUTIQUE RUN WITHOUT DELAY. DISCOUNT CODE: LDN191
2. Check out SUPERchick BOOT CAMP and LEARN 2 RUN courses and SIGN UP!
Laura or Cat at SuperChick HQ would love to hear from you if you have any questions or queries – they are both super nice I promise.
3. Pass on the details of the Boutique Run to all your female friends, colleagues, sisters, or just anyone on your Facebook profile in need of a FUN night out in London with the Girls!
p.s. Rather thrilled - just been called "a genius" - for the first and last time in my life. Wish it was for something appropriately lofty but it appears my genius only extends to locating Blackberry chargers x
