Meet the BIG GUNS!!

Hey you. I’m so happy to see YOU. I was worried for a while there - Blogger has been down since last night – nooooooooooo. Clearly I have a problem. Bloggers Anonymous here I come....

Well it’s less that 24 hours until part two of what is turning out to be an Immense May Walkathon.  As you can see the Moonwalk tent is standing pink and proud. As you will discover, my Moonwalk bra is freshly laundered and sparklicious. And you'll have to trust me on this: the 26.2 mile route has been pored over - LOVING the route btw – just as well the shops will be shut!! The dubious weather forecast has been discussed at length with ALL my colleagues – their concern is so sweet!! and MOST IMPORTANTLY I’ve hit my fundraising target.

WHOOOOOOOOP.

I'll admit I was worried. Fundraising for an event that people know you can actually do or one that you’ve already done before is so tricky and personally makes me feel like I’m hoodwinking my lovely friends and colleagues. Plus so many people run half-marathons, marathons, multiple marathons and ultramarathons now (or is my office just filled with people moonlighting as pro-athletes?!) that it is basically impossible to not feel a bit ridiculous fundraising for a more sane event (some of you out there probably violently disagree with my interpretation of ‘sane’ - I can only apologise). The one exception is of course if you are new to fitness and fundraising for your first event - a 5km or a 10km whatever, it is is an amazing feeling. FEEL the LOVE.

However regardless of your fundraising history to date as a rule people are so generous - personally I am ALWAYS scared to ask but when I do I am ALWAYS blown away. But just asking people to sponsor me always makes me nervous.  Really who likes rejection or awkwardness?! Maybe I’m alone in this but races like the the London BUPA 10km where you are required to raise £500 to redeem a charity place FREAK ME OUT. Raising this much cash takes A LOT of effort and dedication not to mention getting on your knees and grovelling big time. Just ask my bank manager - it's a unique and not to be repeated experience for both parties?! Personally I wouldn’t even dare to commit to raising that sort of amount unless I was actually running a 10km non-stop!!  Joking. Well not really. Actually I would only want to commit to raising that sort of cash for running a marathon – though for a marathon the normal charity expectation is £1000+. Talk about a disincentive to get fit! Not that I needed one for the Marathon. I know my limits.

Most probably I just lack the requisite creativity or ingenuity to be a brilliant fundraiser but fortunately I struck gold this time. So proud considering that I only left myself c.24 hours to hit my target in the end.  Since desperate action was required I decided to resort to good old fashioned, sugary coated bribery (oh the irony).

Out came the BIG GUNS:

Mr Krispy and Mr Kreme

No-one can resist these babies - not even Paleo loving me - oh the shame!
Count the doughnuts - that's how many I've had today
SHAMEFUL ;-)

Dare I say it, it worked a TREAT. People are so generous when confronted by a doughnut. Note to self! Plus extra bonus I was tasked with establishing a new cake table - our old one has been lost during our office organisational shuffle - clearly my relationship and authority regarding all things sugary is legendary. Cake table choice numero 1 was auditioned today. Not bad but not perfect. I take my official job as Cake Monitor seriously!

Most importantly I’ve made my fundraising target - actually I smashed it - by 50% – all thanks to all my AMAZING AND WONDERFUL donators to this fabulous cause and their sugar highs!!!

Now I've just got to burn off my own sugar fix and do the steps - all 60,000 of them or thereabouts!! xx
