DC Relaunch: Digital Pricing and Combo Packs Posted: 03 Jun 2011 07:32 PM PDT DC Comics took a bold step on this week when they announced their digital pricing scale, while also introducing the very first Comic Book Combo Pack. Okay, so this is a little crazy, especially when we get to the pricing scale. But here are the details: On Wednesday, August 31, 2011, DC Comics will be releasing a combo pack with a physical copy of a single-issue comic starting with Justice League #1 that contains a special code that allows buyers of the physical comic to download the digital copy of the same comic. That sounds great, right? Just like a Blu-ray! Well, yes and no. Yes, DC finally released the pricing scale for the upcoming comics, and it's a little bit confusing. But let me try to clarify. When the comics are released, we'll see the physical comics and digital comics released on the same day, but the price for the digital copy will be the same as the physical copy, and if you want to get the combo pack, you can simply shell out an extra dollar for that sucker! Watch Now: ‘Duke Nukem Forever’ Release Trailer Posted: 03 Jun 2011 05:49 PM PDT The moment many of us have been waiting over a decade for is just around the corner. The release of a new Duke Nukem game! To celebrate the impending release, Gearbox software, the current developer of the game, has sent out a new release trailer. It is ridiculous, as should anything related to Duke Nukem should be. The video is embedded below. Originally scheduled to come out in May, Duke Nukem Forever will now be released [finally!] on June 14, 2011 for Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, but if you pre-ordered you have access to an early beta. Also, the game producer has sent out the following information today regarding the pre-ordering for First Access Club Members [...] |
Posted: 03 Jun 2011 03:55 PM PDT Fans of one of the top selling franchises of DC Comics' Green Lantern can breathe a sigh of relief today, as the comic book publishing company has announced their line of Green Lantern titles that are coming in September, and things seem pretty interesting. First, we have the no-surprises title, Green Lantern #1. Not much information has been given with the exception of the creative team of Geoff Johns holding up his writing duties with art from Doug Mahnke and Christian Alamy, with a cover by Ivan Reis and Joe Prado. The interesting item here is that DC doesn't give a name for the actual Green Lantern that will be the main focus of the title, but since we've seen Hal Jordan on the cover of Justice League #1, I suspect Hal Jordan will be the main man of this title [...] |
Real Or Fake: ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Viral Videos Hint At Arkham Asylum Breakout Posted: 03 Jun 2011 02:44 PM PDT A few new short videos have hit the web, and they have people trying to figure out whether they're part of Warner Brothers' viral marketing campaign for director Christopher Nolan's massive trilogy-maker, The Dark Knight Rises, or if they're just a crafty fan helping to add some buzz to the movie. All three videos were posted on YouTube by a user called The Fire Rises, which is the same name on Twitter that revealed the first image we saw of Tom Hardy as Bane not too long ago. Each video is very chaotic and hard to follow, but they do suggest that there has been a massive breakout at the infamous Arkham Asylum, and that anarchy now reigns. All three videos also use that haunting chant we heard on the official Dark Knight Rises website...which, interestingly enough, doesn't seem to be there anymore. You can see all three videos for yourself by clicking on over to the other side now, and let us know whether you think they're real (and effective), or completely fake. [...] |
DC Relaunch: 11 New DC Titles Announced Posted: 03 Jun 2011 10:59 AM PDT Well, DC Comics just won't stop, will they? After a brutal couple of days of teasing the comic book fan universe with "new" and "exciting" steps into the "future" of DC Comics, on Thursday, June 2, 2011, they actually started rolling out some of the details about the upcoming "relaunch" of the DC Universe. And regardless of what I may or may not have said regarding the initial announcement, I can't help but be excited about the second wave of DC Relaunch news. On Thursday, DC released the names and creators of 11 of the 52 new number one comics that are coming out in September, along with cover art, and those are as follows (with added commentary and how excited I am for each): Justice League #1: Written by Geoff Johns, with art by Jim Lee. I mean, this is a bit obvious, isn't it? We found out that this was coming on Tuesday, so it's no surprise to see it listed here. Geoff Johns can handle teams, and who can argue with Jim Lee's artwork? You can criticize his character redesigns, but there's no doubt that this book is going to be a heavy hitter from front to back each month. Let's just hope these two executives are able to give The Justice League the attention it deserves, so it won't be plagued with delays. Yeah, yeah, I'll buy it! [...] |
Interview: Ozzy Osbourne Guitarist Gus G. Posted: 03 Jun 2011 09:37 AM PDT If there's one thing that's guaranteed with Ozzy Osbourne it's that he will be accompanied by an incredible guitarist. In his 30-year solo career very few have been chosen for this role. Now, lighting up the fret board is Greek guitar genius, Gus G. The guitarist agreed to down-axe and talk with me about joining up with one of his idols, the possibility of a new Ozzy album, and setting up his own band, Firewind. Geeks of Doom: So how are you? Gus G.: Yeah, I'm fine. I just woke up actually! But it's cool. Geeks of Doom: Next month you head out across Europe with Ozzy and with Firewind for the summer. What are you up to right now? Gus G.: Well I'm at home in Greece and I've been doing a bunch of stuff, catching up on stuff because I've been on tour for a year. So, you know, going home after almost a whole year with no break you got to take care of a lot of things. To be honest with you I've been practicing a lot of Ozzy songs…we are going to be rehearsing stuff from Blizzard [Of Ozz album] and Diary [Of A Madman album] he hasn't done before so hopefully that will be on the setlist. Geeks of Doom: Yeah, this year it's the 30th anniversary of Diary of a Madman, and also the 25th anniversary of The Ultimate Sin. So have you got anything special planned for the live shows? [...] |
Watch Now: Full Trailer For ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ Posted: 03 Jun 2011 06:57 AM PDT The full-length trailer for the latest in the Planet of the Apes saga, a long-in-development prequel entitled Rise of the Planet of the Apes, has debuted and you can watch it below. The last time 20th Century Fox attempted to reboot their valuable Planet of the Apes franchise the result was Tim Burton's 2001 "reimagining" that despite being one of that year's biggest hits was little more than a mediocre summer action picture that was heavily compromised in the rush to meet the release date that had been locked down before the movie even went before the cameras. A decade later and the studio has decided to give it another shot, but this time it looks like they may have done it right and created an Apes installment that could measure up to the best of the original film series, which debuted with the modern classic Planet of the Apes in 1968 and concluded with Battle for the Planet of the Apes in 1973 (not counting the live-action and animated television spin-offs that followed in the wake of the release of Battle) [...] |
