Posted: 01 Jun 2011 05:08 PM PDT All those rumors you've heard about Activision thinking about charging players a monthly fee to play their hit Call of Duty game franchise online with others? It turns out they were true, even though it was crystal clear that it would be the worst idea ever and that no self-respecting gamer would pay to play something they've been doing freely since online multiplayer has become so popular, the company is going to try their luck anyway. The new service will be called Call of Duty Elite, and it will launch this fall along with the much-anticipated third installment in their ultra-popular Modern Warfare series, Modern Warfare 3. At the moment, however, it does not sound like everyone will have to pay a fee to play online as once feared—no, you should still be able to play as you have been once you've purchased their game. What Activision is doing is testing the waters by offering a special "arena" of sorts where for a small monthly fee you can play online and get extra added downloadable content and special maps to use that you won't have on the basic MW3 disc. ‘The Hunger Games’ Adds Donald Sutherland; Four Movies Planned Posted: 01 Jun 2011 04:02 PM PDT Another big name has been added to the cast of The Hunger Games, which stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson. It's been announced that legendary character actor Donald Sutherland has officially joined the cast, and will be playing the villainous President Snow. Sutherland has appeared in everything from M*A*S*H, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Animal House, and Ordinary People to more recent titles like Space Cowboys, The Italian Job, and The Mechanic. The actor joins recent additions such as Lenny Kravitz, who's set to play Cinna, and the impressive existing cast that consists of Lawrence, Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson, Stanley Tucci, Paula Malcolmson, and Wes Bentley. Collider also recently contacted Lionsgate about their exciting new project, which already has an extremely excited pre-existing fanbase due to the popular Suzanne Collins book trilogy from which the movies are adapted, and asked what their plans were for the movie and its future. Posted: 01 Jun 2011 02:07 PM PDT L.A. Noire Xbox 360 I PS3 DEVELOPER: Team Bondi PUBLISHER: Rockstar Games RELEASE DATE: May 17, 2011 Of all the many exciting titles being released in the year 2011, L.A. Noire has easily developed one of the biggest buzzes of them all. With game-changing (literally) performance capture technology being used and some intriguing new crime-solving gameplay, folks have been lining up to get their hands and eyes on this one for some time now. As far as whether or not the game lives up to all the hype, we'll get right into the down and dirty truth: yes, L.A. Noire is an impressive accomplishment with many elements worthy of praise. The world is huge and detailed, the performances from an awesome cast of recognizable character actors is phenomenal, the music is fitting and sets the tone wonderfully, and the cases are complex and often times brutally realistic. In this game you get to be a detective more so than you ever have before, and that, my friends, is pretty damn cool. [...] |
The GoD List: Comics for June 1, 2011 Posted: 01 Jun 2011 12:42 PM PDT Each week, MK2Fac3 and Henchman21 read a lot of comics. Seriously, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. They look forward to some more than others, I mean, who doesn't? So, let's take a look into the depths of their pull list, grab some issues and we'll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of June 1, 2011. Single issues and trades, they're all here. Apparently, I took all the comics that MK2Fac3 wanted to talk about this week, which I can't be held responsible for, so you fine readers will get an extra helping of my suggestions. I hope you enjoy. ISSUES Criminal: Last of the Innocent #1 (Marvel/Icon - $3.99): I'm very excited that Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips' Criminal is back with a new story. Criminal is consistently one of the best books on the market and it's a shame that more people don't give this book a shot. Every story arc is a self-contained story, but Brubaker also has created a universe where all of the stories exist and long-term readers are rewarded with Easter Eggs showing how the stories are connected. The art by Sean Phillips sets the perfect mood for this series and always impresses. If you've been reading Brubaker and Phillips' Incognito but haven't been reading Criminal, it's time to jump on board. And if you haven't been reading Criminal or Incognito, well then you have a lot of reading to do [...] |
