Rs 5,142 Budget Estimate For 2010-11 presented in Manipur Assembly

Imphal, Jul 8 : Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, who also holds the Finance portfolio, today presented a budget estimate of Rs 5,946 crore in the state Assembly. It indicates an increase of 16 per cent over the 2009-10 budget.

Of the total budget, Rs 3027.06 crore is under non-plan while Rs 2,600 crore is under state plan and Rs 318.94 crore under the Centrally-sponsored schemes.

He informed that the plan size for the current financial year was fixed by the Planning commission at Rs 2,600 crore, of which 77 per cent is financed under the central plan assistance and special plan assistance.

For the current year, Rs 150 crore had been allocated for roads and bridges, Rs 60 crore for Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences, Rs 95 crore for Loktak lake and Rs 44.52 cr for agriculture.

For major and medium irrigation projects, Rs 331.57 crore had been earmarked. For sports, education and culture Rs 133.10 crore had been allocated. The Gross Domestic Product is also increasing at eight per cent.

Under the 13th finance commission awards, Rs 13,567.5 crore for the period 2010-15 had been recommended. The state government had demanded Rs 22.703 crore, he said.

The session, which began today, was marked with obituary reference to former vice-president Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, and former members of the House Paokhohang Haokip and Salam Chandra. About 16 days of sittings had been suggested to transact the budget discussions of the various departments.
